Communispace hosted its first exclusive Promise Luncheon Meet of 2013 on February 12, with Guest Speaker, Alan Stewart, CFO of Marks & Spencer. Stewart has been the CFO of M&S since October 2010 and has extensive experience in retail and other highly competitive industries, including travel and banking. He spent nine years working for HSBC Investment Bank before joining Thomas Cook in 1996, where he spent seven years, in roles including Chief Executive of Thomas Cook UK and Group Chief Financial Officer. Alan joined WHSmith PLC in 2005 as Group Finance Director, where he played a key role in delivering the Group’s improved performance.
Stewart addressed the hot topic of change in retail, specifically focussing on the shifts in the market, the next generation of consumers and the implications for Marks & Spencer. Hosted by Promise CEO, Charles Trevail, the event had limited places and welcomed a select few senior executives from a range of sectors, from Bupa to E.ON, to enjoy Alan’s insights.
It promised to be an enjoyable event for all and certainly lived up to expectation. The discussion touched on areas at the forefront of many business leaders’ minds as we continue to try and successfully navigate our way through recession, hoping to both retain customers and gain new ones, whilst at the same time remaining cutting-edge and ahead of the curve.
We hope to run several Luncheon Meets throughout the course of the year, where we will welcome other stimulating speakers. For more information, please contact Nicole at email@example.com.
